Hey! My name is Nicol.

Although I've been photographing for years, I have been an elementary educator for seven years! I love teaching fifth grade, because I love watching perspectives grow and change, sassy personalities develop and flourish in the classroom, and the fun they bring. I am also finishing up my Masters in Social Work, hoping to work in a therapeutic setting. I love listening to people's stories and supporting others in the best way I can.

What that means for a photography setting with me is I will:

  • make sure you never feel out of place and if it gets awkward (because it always does at first), I’ll be just as goofy right alongside you.
  • guide you with natural poses that don’t feel stiff, so your photos actually look like you.
  • weave in the things you love, whether it’s places, activities, or little rituals, so your photographs feel connected to your real life, not just the moment of the shoot.

I use she/her pronouns and I identify as Asian-American (my parents are both Vietnamese refugees to Canada, and I recently immigrated to the United States after marrying my husband)! My best friend is a corgi named Kaia. We love hiking, paddling, and eating. I loooove food recommendations (my favorite restaurant in Portland is Hat Yai -- what's yours?). I'm also a huge fantasy book fan and wish I could ride dragons/be a fairy daily.
