Where do you feel happiest?
For Ant and Kyung, their happy place is wherever the food is. When first meeting the two of them together, they compiled the most elaborate sweet and savory pie that has probably ever existed. Throughout our session, they spilled so many details, and so many wonderful recipes, of the different meals that they create together. For them, food isn't just sustenance, it is a way of being. In their families, food was integral to the foundation of the home, as is in many Asian households. A shared meal is a declaration of love, of respect, and of commitment to one another. Even when angry, a plate of peeled or cut fruit is a symbol that there will always be love.
Which is how we found ourselves in front of H-Mart, a Korean grocery store, in Portland. There are many locations scattered across the country, but they are famous for having all of the Asian ingredients you'll need to make a wonderful meal. The goal today was to find everything to make a Korean BBQ style feast with some friends... and grab some photos while we were at it.
These two have always been a couple of silly souls. They were the perfect couple to third-wheel on this grocery store couples photo session. They were so excited about finding matching fruit eyes (or boobs -- whatever floats your boat!). As self-described souls full of ADHD, they brought the chaotic energy to create some fun photos. We were diligent in making sure it was okay to photograph inside, and ensured that we would not take photos of any other patrons on this Tuesday afternoon. We recreated some scenes straight from a K-drama, following a love story of two people who snack all of the time (and also make some of the best food)!
